One of the Zhantra girls at Space for LP’s Birthday
The weekend was a total washout, but that didn’t stop the Miami masses from coming out. Friday was a drizzle, but I needed to catch up on a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, so I didn’t cover any events that evening. Instead, I “saved” myself for LP’s birthday at Space.
Louis Puig, or “LP” as he’s known around town, founded Space back in 2000 in the Downtown area. Those who may keep track of my goings-on know that I’ve been a regular shooter and attendee of the venue since then, excepting tours and my Vegas exile. It’s “home” as it were. A lot of people in Miami give the venue a hard time for various reasons, but objectively I consider it one of the most consistent and successful venues around, simply because you can walk in on a Saturday night/Sunday morning, and expect to have a decent time. The music and crowd might shift with the trends and the sands of time, but I think from an economic perspective, if you are going to run a venue, consistency is something to achieve. Especially when it costs upwards of $30,000 just to open the doors for an evening.
But, I always have an excellent time at the venue, professional affiliations aside, and it’s a great place to hone your skills for nightlife shooting…
